QUEEN AMIDALA

HISTORY:

Padmé Amidala of Naboo was the secret wife of Anakin Skywalker and the mother of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa Solo. She was the democratically-elected Queen of Naboo before representing as a Senator in the Galactic Senate. Throughout her relatively short life, she played a vital role in the politics and events surrounding the waning years of the Old Republic.

Shortly after her election, Queen Amidala was faced with what would become one of the most significant problems in Naboo history. In protest of the Galactic Senate's decision to tax users of the galaxy's trade routes, Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation, secretly following the orders of Darth Sidious, enforced a blockade on Amidala's homeworld. Naboo, with little resources of its own, relied on imports, and the blockade served as the perfect example of the Republic's reliance on trade.

After a number of meetings with various worried Senators such as Bail Organa and Mon Mothma, Amidala agreed to lead the Delegation of 2000, a group of Senators opposed to the dictatorship that Chancellor Palpatine's rule was becoming. While the petition presented by Padmé to the Chancellor would later pave the way for a resistance movement, the Rebel Alliance, it's immediate effects were the reverse of what was hoped, with Palpatine ignoring it all together before using it to round up what he coined "traitors to the Senate" during and after his ascension to absolute power.
